American Horror Story: Anti-Christian?

American Horror Story and Religion

ABOUT THE SHOW

American Horror Story premiered on cable television channel, FX, on October 5th, 2011. Since then, the show has acquired a large fan base of viewers interested in all things unnerving. At this time, American Horror Story has accumulated a total of eight seasons, with the eighth season still in progress on air. The series works as an anthology collection, meaning each season consists of different characters, storylines, settings, etc. This analysis will examine an episode or two from three of those seasons: season five - hotel, season two - asylum, and season eight - apocalypse, to look at the combination of religion and the horror genre. Specifically, this analysis will determine if the creators of American Horror Story are being disrespectful in incorporating religious themes into a show about horror.

If you've never seen the show, here's a compilation video of the opening credits from seasons 1-6, to give you a taste of the kinds of images and themes American Horror Story projects to its viewers.
